I am really excited to get back to our courses and online discussions. They have helped me very much. It is going to be difficult to get back into the swing of things, but God will make a way. I am glad that God is so awesome!!!

I have a DVD cours this time. It is called O.T. SURVEY: POETRY AND PROPHECY. The instructor is Dr. Garnett Reid. I will be watching three DVDs a week and following along with the syllabus.

Good Morning, my book this time is titled "The Bible Jesus Read" by Philip Yancey. I chose this because I've read another book from him and enjoyed it. It has 221 pages and I should cover 25 pages a week.

I seem to have messed up on my course. I found out on my DVD that the textbook that I need is the same book that Sean is reading this time. Randy-I will read it along with my next course if that is alright. If it is not, just let me know.

I was saved when I was young at a tent revival at Centre Baptist Church in Crab Orchard. My pastor at the time was Jerry Schell. He prayed the sinner's pray with me. My parents got a divorce a few years later and we did not go to church after that, only every other weekend when we would be a dad's house. I got away from God when I was in high school. I did things that were not good for me and I made a fool out of myself several times. After my wife and I got married, we both started to feel God tugging at our hearts. I worked third shift at the time and would drive home early in the morning. God would deal with me every day until finally I couldn't deal with it anymore. I had to get right with Him. I asked Jesus to come back in my heart and started my new life.

My first DVD was just an intro to the course. The instructor told what was required and the things that the students would need. The second session was about poetry. There was an overview of english poetry and some examples. Then he turned to hebrew poetry.

Tyler Owens said...

Session three was about two characteristics of hebrew poetry. They are imagery and parallelism. Imagery is word pictures and figures of speech. Parallelism is also known as "couplet comparison". There are several types of parallelism in the bible. They are synonymous, antithetic, emblematic, climactic, chiasm, and synthetic. If you guys want me to explain any of these terms, just let me know.

Tyler, thanks for sharing yor testimony. May the Lord bless you and your family as you follow Him. Thank God for second chances!

Dr. Randy Carney said...

Tyler, yes, I would like to know about chiasm parallelism. I think I have synthetic figured out, but you explain it too. Maybe Sean would like you to comment on another one.

Sean, how does your Clark Farms Trucking work. Do you provide trucking for a lot of farms? Do you haul grain to elevators? Do you have a large fleet? Tell me a little more about this, please.

Dr. Randy Carney said...

Sean,

Are you getting ready for deer season? If so, do you hunt with a bow? I saw at least a six-point buck in my soy bean field at my back door just last week.

Most of the hunting I do is squirrel hunting, but I haven't been very much this year.

This is the last day of the week, we will need your final comments in by midnight. Next week, we will take off on the content of your courses.

Good Morning, In response to Randy's questions, My role at Clark Farms is many things. My brother- in law & I run the day to day operations of the whole company, we run 25 of our own trucks over the road, about 7 of these are directly under my dispatch. The rest are under Dave and I help with those, he runs the dumps an I run the vans. I help him with the dumps since thats what we started with so I'm familiar with what they do. We run very little grain, we run mostly scrap metal. Its a long story why we are called Clark Farms. But I also handle the bulk of rock sales end of our business. There are other little things I do around here as well.

Also, I enjoy deer hunting, I bow hunt and I'm excited this year because my oldest son will go with me this year. Both of my boys will youth hunt for shotgun this year. I love being able to sit in the woods and watch it come to life. I also enjoy duck & goose hunting, along with shooting clays.

Chiasm parralellism is an inverted correspondence between parts of a verse. It almost takes the verse and turns it around. One example of this is Psalms 1:6.

I am going to a revival tonight at Scottsboro church. My dad is going to be preaching there. I really am looking forward to it because he doesn't fill a pulpit very much any more. He is a very good preacher and I wish he would do it more, but he feel that God does not want him to be in that position too much.
