The first chapter talks about the Bible as the word of God. We have to believe that God has breathed His word into scripture. This is the reason, I think, that it is the first chapter in the book.

The next chapter is talking about two conviction that we must have about Biblical texts. First, it is an inspired text. This means all of it. It is also asomewhat closed text. The minister's duty is to open up scripture to others.

The chapter that is title Overfed, Underchallenged is very interesting. It says that a message must do battle for the will. To many ministers are not challenging the congregation enough. Tozer said that "sermonettes make christianettes".

Chapter five is about nine beliefs at the heart of biblical peaching. The first is the ultimate aim of preaching is to please God. Secondly, preaching pleases God only when it is true to scripture. Third, the scriptures are the inerrant, inspired Word of God written. Fourth, preaching is a sacred responsibility. Fifth, the scriptures were intended not only for the original hearers but for our unique hearers today. Sixth, the original intent of the text controls its message to hearers today. Seventh, the subject of every message is God and People. Eighth, clarity is paramount. Lastly, our duty is to preach boldly.

The chapter titled John 3:16 in the Key of C is really good. It is about the place of music and preaching. Today, we think that the preaching is separate from the worship part of the service. The author says that preaching is the central part of the worship service. I agree with him on this point, He says that true preachers are also worship leaders.

Chapter twelve is about three ideas that shape the author's approach to preaching. He says that preachers communicate ideas. Secondly, the idea of a passage should govern the idea of the sermon. Also, biblical preaching must be applied.

Chapter fifteen is called "A Cup Running Over". It is about how and why a preacher must find deep satisfaction in Christ. We need to make sure our soul is satisfied in order for us to make an impact on someone else. The author suggests spending time away from everything but yourself and God at least once a week. This will help us not to get burned out.

Chapter ninteen is about staying out of trouble morally. We have to maintain personal integrity. We have to take steps to keep us from bad situations. We also have to make sure we are always being truthful.
