The title of my course is Old Testament Survey: Poetry and Prophecy. The instructor is Dr. Garnett Reid. I'll watch 4 classes this week. These start on the Bablonian prophesies.

The 1st dvd begins with Lamentations. Then it goes into Ezekiel and I think Daniel will be next. I like Lamentations, one of my favorite verses is from it. Lam 3:21 This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope.
Lam 3:22 It is of the LORD's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.
Lam 3:23 They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

He starts of with a little discussion on Lamentations. He points out this is when God follows thru on the results of not following His commandments. This seems to me an excuse thats used a lot to not submit to God. That He's portayed as an angry God. But when you think a little futher, would you really want a creator thats not just?

Another interesting point is that he says the Hebrew meaning of Lamentations is "how", or "alas". A lot can be related to now from this name. This is the judgment and the people are in somewhat of disbelief. What it might be like on Judgment Day. Or the feeling of drifting from God and wondering "how". Why it seems it never hits home until the punishment is being done.

The book of Lamentations is a portrait of how the author feels at that time. I heard that Jeremiah is the author. Is there any discussion on that or objection of his authorship?

You know, I dont remember if he talked about that, He prorbobly did and I must have missed it. I believe he talks about it as if Jeremiah wrote it. Personally I guess I have just accepted that he wrote it because it is after his book.

I have always thought of Jeremiah as the author of Lamentations. I don't remember now about the objections to such an idea. If there were such, I guesss I continued to think it was Jeremiah after examining the questions. Tyler, do you recall some problems (or percieved problems that some have) about Jeremiah being the author?

Usually in these courses, they will point out the arguments against the authors of books. It is always the same kind of liberal scholars that think this way. I think that they just want to try to find ways to disprove the Bible's authenticity. They use the same old arguments every time.

He's now going into Ezekiel. He says Ezekiel means "strength". He says in Ezekiel & Daniel the focus of Prophecy shifts from the focus on Jerusalem to Babylon.

He also talks about the wheels in Ezekiels dreams. He sees it that he showhing that God can move from Jerusalem to Bablyon. That some might have thought God was not with them in Babylon, but God was with them everywhere they went. I hadn't heard it described that way before, but I liked it.

Sean, how does Jeremiah 12 and Psalm 73 relate to the question, "Why doesn't God act?"
