I havent watched any yet this week, but it should be mostly on Hebrews. I'm looking forward to it. Randy I pray for strength to you and your church in going thru this change.

Hi Sean, I know that the author of the book of Hebrews is'nt known, but in an advanced study I wanted to ask if there were any clues as to who did write the book? Have a good day!

this 1st class for this week is talking about authorship, the instructor actually names about 10 names that were thought to have written it. Paul of course is one but he spends most of the time disproving Paul. He mentions Luke, Priscilla, Aquila???, and even Mary. He concludes by saying that when there is a lot of names being mentioned, it usually means they really dont know who the author is. And that no matter who wrote it, it was Spitit inspired. Thanks for the question Roger, it was right on what this class was talking about.

Bro. Roger,

My good friend, and former co-worker, Dr. Robert Griffen, mentioned that he thought it was likely to be Barnabas.

Of course I haven't read or seen the class that Sean has, but I am not convinced that Paul could be completely ruled out, but maybe I just haven't looked into it lately. I just remember in the past, I wasn't convinced the could definitively be ruled out, although I'm sure Bro. McAffee is probably way up on it more than I am. :)

I guess that, a few years ago, Paul was thought to be the author by many people. I say this because I have an old Bible that my dad used to have when he was a young preacher. In the title of the book of Hebrews, it says "The Epistle of Paul to the Hebrews." That is just something that I found interesting.

Sean, you were absolutely right when you reminded me that all the Bible was God inspired and thank God for obedience of men to record it for us. We get hung up on details that don't matter sometimes. Who did this, or who did that, thank God it was done, and was a leading of the Holy Spirit. God Bless

This instructor does make a point to say that his personal opinion is that Paul didnt write it. One reason was that there was not a greeting. Another point was that anythime the OT was quoted it didnt say "as it is written", which was normally what Paul said. To me, those are not very strong reasons for the fact that there could've been a scribe doing it.
