The title of my book is THE BIBLE JESUS READ. The author is Philip Yancey. There are seven chapters in this book. I will be reading one chapter this week. The name of chapter three is Deuteronomy:A Taste of Bittersweet.

This chapter is pretty interesting. I kind of talks about some of the things that Moses may have been thinking. I have always wondered some of the same questions that the author asked. I bet it was hard even for Moses to see the big picture sometimes.

God really showed up in Moses' life. I like to think that Moses was a man that was set up to be a leader. He was educated by the top teachers in Egypt. Then he lived as a shepherd. He was clearly God's man.

I love the stories of Moses, I remember after I was saved I was able to teach Sunday School to the 7-10 years olds. The story of Moses was what we were studying and it was awesome for me because like them, it was all new to me. When I read them now I ask myself, am I more like Moses, or the children of Israel? Can you be either, or both?

The Yancey book left me the thought on Deuteronomy that Moses knew the children of Israel were going to mess up in the promised land. He gives them the options, asks them to choose life or death, lays out what will happen either way. They seemed to chose the latter. I'm not sure what this makes me think.

I think that we seem to be more like the children of Israel more often than we would like to admit. It is just like when we are on a spiritual mountain, we feel like we are doing good for God. On the other hand, we feel like we are not doing right when we are in a valley. Let's pray that we become more like Moses in our walk with God.

I guess that if one werer to look at Moses, they may not have seen him as a leader. We think that a leader should be tough and powerful. He should be able to talk well and use good vocabulary. Moses was none of these things, yet God made him a powerful leader. I am glad God chooses the ones who don't look the part.

I think we can be like Moses AND like the children of Israel at the same time. As we learn about our gifts and improve our skills AND take opportunities that come our way, we often are thrust into positions of leadership. On the other hand, we haven't arrived in all areas of our lives. What do you think, Tyler?

I think that we can feel like Moses when we are doing what the Lord wants us to do. That is all that Moses was doing. On the other hand, I feel like the children of Israel when i don't do what I know that God wants me to do.
