Hey Tyler, I hope your 1st day went good. I'm happy to hear you have found a job. I have a good frienf there, Jeff Mcgee. If you see him tell him I said Hi. We were in scouts together. If you think of it, tell him we need to ride together this spring.

Thanks, Sean. I had a good day on Monday as well as today. I met some guys who are Christians. It sure is good to work with some brothers. Your friend may not work in the same department as I do. I work in vending.

The first DVD talks about the Gospel of Luke. The central theme is Jesus as Saviour. Luke is the first part in a two-part book. Luke was a companion of Paul. Scholars think that Luke was written in Rome because Acts ends with Paul in prison. The book is written to Theophillus. This name means "one who loves God". Some think that this was a codename for the early church.

I've always like the thought that Luke was a gentile. He gives a perspective from a non-jewish side. I like that a gentile wrote a Gospel. DOes your study talk about that any?

Tyler Owens said...

Yes it does talk about it on my DVD. Luke has a different perspective than the others do. There is a lot of parables in Luke's gospel. Yes, Roger, I actually work in the exact same department with Ken. Isn't that wierd?

Hey Tyler, your right about the parables, Luke recorded alot that the other authors did'nt write about. Does your study mention anything about that, the number of parables?

Tyler Owens said...

Not really a number, just the fact that Luke seems to concentrate more on them.

I found a few words that I didn't understand.
Coalescing was one of them. I thought that it may have meant "pertaining to". I saw it later and thought that it meant "coming together". The actual definition is-to blend or come together.

More words-

1. Idyllic-first homeade definition-simple or lowly
actual definition-charmingly rustic or simple

2. Midrashic- first homeade definition-made up
actual definition-an early Jewish interpretation of commentary on a Biblical text, clarifying or expounding a point of law or developing or illustrating a moral principle

The next DVD that I watched was more on Luke. His purposes for writing his account are-for an accurate history, catechetical(list of questions and answers), and he also has an apologetic purpose. The theme is "Jesus is the Saviour of the whole world". He also show concern for lower social classes.

Another thing about Luke that I like is that he was a doctor. I'm not sure about back then, how much they knew about the body, but I would think he had to say to himself that "wow.. this is who created this".

The twentieth session talks about how parables were used to help people remember, to conceal mysteries, and to make an impact on the listeners.
